Billy’s the top kid for Potton

A first-half brace from James Billington gave Potton United a deserved 2-0 victory over previously unbeaten Boston Town on Saturday.

The kick-off was delayed due to the visitors and the referee being stuck on the gridlocked A1 and it was Potton who came out looking the better side.

Boston slowly came into the game but the home side took a 28th minute lead when a well-worked Billington free-kick deceived the visiting keeper.

Good work between Paul Garrett and Billington saw the latter add his second goal in the dying seconds of the half.

Biggleswade Town slumped to their third league defeat of the season at Broxbourne Borough.

The 2-0 loss leaves them rooted to the foot of the Premier Division and yet to record a point.

It was the same old story with the Waders unable to either create or take a scoring chance of any description.

The game had been evenly poised, although drab, for the first half an hour with no goalmouth action for either side.

But, on 31 minutes, the Biggleswade defence allowed Broxbourne dangerman Emil Aiken to collect the ball in space, stride forward and unleash a shot into the far corner leaving keeper Lee Robinson helpless.

The most decisive moment in the game came in the 56th minute when Biggleswade's Scott Orphanou brought a great save out of the Broxbourne keeper.

He immediately sent a ball forward to Aiken who was allowed to cross for Opako to head home from close range.

A triple substitution by the Waders soon afterwards made no difference to the outcome of the game.

Biggleswade United recovered from Saturday's 5-0 league drubbing at Welwyn Garden City to make progress in the SML Challenge Trophy on Tuesday night.

They were 3-2 winners over Kentish Town thanks to two goals from Robbie O'Dell and one by Gary Jackson.
