Biggleswade banished their league blues for a week at least with a crushing win over lowly Stoneygate.

Without a league try since early December, the floodgates burst with a 13-try romp that doubled their previous points tally.

As early as the second minute, Biggleswade were in the lead as Simon Cooper swept through some flimsy defence for a try under the posts that Mark Rastrick converted.

Within a quarter of an hour, the result was effectively decided as Biggy piled on three more tries.

Burly prop AJ Burke made a massive break down the left wing. The ball was quickly recycled across field for Sam Brocklesby to score in the right corner.

Winger Nathan James, who like the rest of the side has been having a lean time in the try scoring department, was far too quick for his opposite number.

Given ball and space he was not slow to show what he could do. He ran in the next three tries before retiring soon after the break to let Craig Smith have a run. Smith's first touch of the ball was to receive a scoring pass for another right-wing try.

In all Biggleswade piled up 13 tries with James (hat-trick), Cooper (two), Russell German (two), Taig Norman (two), Brocklesby, Matthew Keen, Rastrick and Smith getting the scores. Rastrick added eight conversions.

The massive win does not improve their league position but it cuts in half the overall points difference. But there is still a great deal to do if Biggleswade are to survive the drop this season.

This weekend, Biggleswade are scheduled to have a friendly against Shelford 2nds at home with an early kick off due to the Six Nations.
