Biggleswade Swimming Club hosted its inaugural Vice Presidents Novice Gala on Saturday.

Huntingdon (227 points) took the trophy, while Biggleswade (210 points) came a creditable second.

Wellingborough and Dunstable came third and fourth respectively.

Bishop's Stortford and Chatteris had withdrawn on the day due to illness within their squads.

The coaching team of Ivor Connell, Kim Ulmer and Jo McConnell praised the swimmers, who mostly came from the junior and development squads.

"For youngsters to swim in their first competitive event and gain 28 personal bests out of only 40 events shows their commitment to the sport.

"We are very proud of what they have achieved and with the senior members of the club giving up their Saturday evening to support their younger colleagues just goes to show the team spirit that has evolved in this club!"

The Biggleswade team consisted of Arron Rook, Benjamin Horner, Ethan and Kane Farrell, Emily Bradbury, Emily and Charlotte McConnell, Jessica Caughtrey, Lauren Shaw, Kimberley Stokes, Joseph Franklin, Shauna and Kevin Lee, Nicole and Rose Tilbury, Sally-Anne and Barry Gibson, Jack Doyle, Peter Fletcher, Steven Horner, Helen Davey, Georgina Quayle, Ellie Mason, Katie Tavener, Jade Wright, Dominic Hill, Alice Brettle, Andrew Millard, Hayden Mallet, Harriet Wase, Charlie and Andrew Warren and Mark Hudson.
