Biggleswade Town's cricketers opened their Beds Premier League campaign with a crushing win over nine-man Sharnbrook.

After winning the toss and batting, Sharnbrook lost a wicket in each of the first two overs but they continued to attack the Biggleswade bowling and the scoreboard rattled along.

Martin Whinnett picked up 5-24 in his eight-over spell as Sharnbrook were out in just 18.4 overs for 111.

It was only thanks to some big hitting from Ben Harding and a last wicket stand of 36 that Sharnbrook passed the hundred mark.

After an early tea, Biggleswade openers Ifti Hussain and Kevin Wright put on 57 for the first wicket before Wright was caught behind off the bowling of Harding.

James Peacock joined Hussain in another good partnership as Biggleswade cruised to victory.

Peacock was out going for a big hit to finish the game only for Hussain (45no) to put the following ball onto the roof of Sharnbrook's clubhouse.

Biggleswade expect a tougher fixture this Sunday when they entertain Vauxhall Motors at Fairfield.

The seconds beat Sandy by 51 runs in Division Three.

Andy Collins top scored with an unbeaten 59 as they posted 214-8 before bowling Sandy out for 163.

Saturday's friendly at Codicote was rained off after Biggleswade had reached 177-7. Andy Curl (60) smashed his second successive fifty and his knock contained three sixes and seven fours.
