Biggleswade Town are meeting up with their former star batsman this weekend.

They are entertaining Ickwell at Fairfield in the Beds Premier League this Sunday.

This will see the much-anticipated return of the prolific South African Jon Cole-Edwardes who defected over the winter.

Cole-Edwardes had been one of the mainstays of their side in recent seasons.

Biggleswade lost a hard-fought game by six wickets against Vauxhall Motors on Sunday.

After losing the toss and being asked to bat on a wet Fairfield wicket, Biggleswade struggled to counter the accurate Vauxhall bowling.

Ifti Hussain was out in the first over bringing James Peacock to the crease earlier than expected. Skipper Kevin Wright followed 10 overs later and only 27 runs had been added.

Jimmy Hart and Peacock crafted a solid partnership before Peacock was out in the 20th over with 61 on the board.

Martin Whinnett scratched around for 12 runs from 35 balls but Hart was beginning to open up by now, hitting some glorious cover drives and cut shots.

Whinnett departed in the 31st over with the score on 105 bringing Shabz Hussain to the crease.

Some energetic running, sometimes erring on the suicidal, saw Hart and Hussain add 70 runs off the next 11 overs to give Biggleswade a fighting chance of setting a decent total.

Hart was out for 78 from 88 balls and then the momentum was lost with just a further 19 runs added in the last four overs with wickets falling regularly as Town ended on 194-8 off their 46 overs.

Town started well as bowling conditions were still favourable. Whinnett picked up the wicket of Dar with a sharp catch in the slips by Matt Twigg before Shabz Hussain, bowling quickly, dismissed Latif caught behind attempting a hook shot.

Twigg came into the attack, bowling in tandem with Harmit Bahra and soon picked up Khan leg before.

Bahra bowled well with no luck and Vauxhall were struggling at drinks on 73-3 after 23 overs.

Two overs after drinks, Twigg bowled Sharif for 22 bringing Vauxhall's big-hitting captain, Asif Khan, to the crease.

Asif played himself in and took 20 balls to get his eye in before tucking into the third string bowlers including two huge sixes.

Vauxhall moved to 140-4 off 36 overs before Hussain and Whinnett were reintroduced into the attack.

It was too late as Asif helped himself to three more sixes as Vauxhall ran out winners in the 43rd over.
