Veteran race walker Arthur Thomson has broken one of his own world records.
Thomson from Letchworth Garden City, a Herts Phoenix AC member who will be 72 later this month, comfortably beat his own 20k race walking veteran world record (M70) by 39 seconds on Sunday in cold and snowy Essex.
The race was the UK Athletics and RWA championships open to all race walkers.
Arthur was the fifth British athlete to finish and recorded a time of 1-52:47.
The race overall was won by the Irish guest walker, Brendan Boyce, in 1-37:26.
Arthur quipped afterwards: "I had to go fast to keep warm!
