Letchworth Rugby Club's rising stars have brought home their first silverware from this year's Isle of Wight Festival.

And their victory justified the efforts of the club a few years ago to invest in youth rugby.

The boys who started then now form the basis of the club's under-12 squad who were victorious in one of southern England's premier junior festivals.

They scored 26 tries in six games and conceded only three against the cream of the southern counties.

The confident Letchworth boys started the competition with an unanswered six-try 40-0 hammering of Edenbridge from Kent.

Berkshire's Heathfield suffered a similar fate - 42-0 this time. Jack Davies slotted all six conversions to add to his five in the previous game.

Next up were fancied Dorking from Surrey but tries from Scott Kirkman and Josh Swain, supported by two more conversions from a faultless Davies, saw a win that was more comfortable than the 14-0 score indicates.

Hampshire club Alton managed to score a try but Letchworth won the game comfortably 28-7.

Letchworth had their closest game of the festival in the semi-final against unbeaten Bracknell. Two tries from Swain and Rob Booth sealed a deserved 28-7 victory.

The final against Sussex side Chichester was won by an identical scoreline.

Fine work behind the scrum by Jack Mead led to the breakthrough with Swain going over.

Swain completed a hat-trick of tries before Chichester fought back for a score. Booth restored the 21-point cushion and ensured their first tournament victory.

Although it was a true team victory, two boys stood out - Davies (25 conversions in 26 attempts) and Swain (a try in every game).
