Stevenage Phoenix were active in the week with the St Albans Half their main focus.

Always a hilly affair, there were sultry temperatures as well for this running but despite all those challenges, the eight Phoenicians involved managed some very pleasing times and personal bests too.

First home for the club, and 480th out of the 2,000-plus finishers was Bobby Buckley, setting a PB of one hour 45 minutes four seconds.

Jess Clarke followed, not only inside the two-hour barrier but also in a fastest time ever of 1:59:23, and Caitlin Evans made it a triple PB day with 2:18:29.

Katie Mitham (2:23:25), Kelsee Watson (2:23:27) and David Poulter (2:45:19) were all first-timers while for Denise Ricot (2:42:05) and Charlie Day (2:54:21) it was about ticking off another half.

Fairlands Valley Spartans had Robert Wright and Natalie Gregson at the St Albans Half, the former clocking 1:46:02 to finish 506th while the latter managed 1:49:02 for 600th position.

Lloyd Dias meanwhile ran the 5k distance in 28:41.

The two clubs were also at Endure 24, a trail-running relay near Reading where teams attempt to run as many 8k laps as they can in a 24-hour period.

Ian Harvey and James Woodcock from Phoenix were part of a four-man team who completed 30 laps to finish 113th out of 996 teams while there were three in the squad of four that finished 276th.

Andrew Liddle, Mark Legate and Jodie Kantas completed 24 laps, the same as a squad, including Phoenicians' Scott Crawford, Ashley Bates, Emma Mead and Peter Tungate.

They finished 296th.

Spartans' Jay Papa meanwhile ran nine laps as part of a team that managed 30 laps.

Team-mate Charlie Arnold ran two events in the space of three days.

He started by running the 1500m at the Eastern Masters league fixture before completing the Marston Forest 5k in 23:13.

Four from Stevenage Phoenix took part as well in the 342-strong field.

Hayden Cooper was first home out of them in 24:09, 15 seconds ahead of dad Gavin.

Phil Gover (25:01) and Neil Homewood (27:21) were the others.

Phoenix also joined forces with Stevenage & North Herts AC to complete in round two of the Midweek Road Race League.

The Division Three fixture was held at Royston and 15 from the club were involved.

The newest member of the club, Alex Wasley, was 31st and Ian Harvey 36th.

Katka Laughton  was 51st in the women's race and Mel Tanti 60th.

The results enabled the team to finish fifth on the night and stay fifth overall.

Elsewhere Ashley Bates of Phoenix got a PB of 50:09 at the Chase the Sun 10k.

North Herts Road Runners had an unusually quiet week.

Tom Barclay and Jane Clarke headed to the Jersey Half Marathon, Barclay finishing in 1:19:40 to finish fourth overall.

Clarke meanwhile had a time of 1:46:35, saying the race was well organised with great views of the coastline and sea among some serious inclines.

Hannah Ridley competed for Hertfordshire Police in the Police National track & field Championship.

She ran 5,000m on the track for the first time and came away with second place and a new PB of 18:58.
