The newest sports club in town have enjoyed a rapid start to life but are looking to grow the numbers further.

Stevenage Pickleball Club officially began life just two months ago but are already launching new initiatives to continue their surging growth.

Based at Stevenage Arts & Leisure Centre, and with the support of Everyone Active, beginners sessions start on Tuesday, running for an hour from 10.30am, and will continue for at least eight weeks.

The first session is free and then just £2 for each further session.

The club have also entered a team of eight, comprising four men and four women, into the Herts League with games scheduled against East Herts, West Herts Wizards and Cambridge over the next three months.

Pickleball is related to table tennis and tennis with players using paddles to hit a perforated, hollow plastic ball over a 34-inch high net.

Further club sessions are being planned for evenings and weekends to supplement the existing popular Monday and Wednesday morning slots, and one held on Friday afternoons.

It is hoped to start outdoor play at Shephalbury Park later in May.
