Athletes from North Herts Road Runners and Fairlands Valley Spartans saw the year out with championship medals.
The Buntingford 10k on the final Saturday of 2023 also incorporated the British Masters Athletics Federation Championship and the Hertfordshire Masters County Championship.
And the sold out event, hosted by Royston Runners, saw impressive participation numbers and performances from the clubs.
There were 37 from the Letchworth-based NHRR and their squads won both the women’s and men’s team categories in the county competition.
The biggest individual medal for the club went to Paula Holm, who came second in the British FV40 age category and first in the Herts County FV35.
She also clocked a PB of one hour 10 minutes 49 seconds for good measure.
Others from the club to win county gongs were Tracy Pitcairn, who finished third FV35 with a PB of 1:13:53, and Caroline Thrussell who was first FV55 in 1:18:06.
Matt Sayers smashed the hour barrier in 58:38 to finish third MV40.
The winning women’s vets team comprised Natasha Pitman, Rachel Arnott and Astrid McKeown, with Astrid shattering the 11-year-old club record in the FV50 category by over four minutes.
The winning men’s team was Sayers, Nathan Pask, Stewart Overton and Rob Harris.
Ladies’ team captain Pitman said: "I was amazed to see at least six personal best times in Christmas week on a hilly course, so kudos to our amazing coaches and the discipline of our runners."
Fairlands Valley Spartans were also toasting success.
Four from the Stevenage club entered the British Masters event and one of them, Yuko Gordon came away with gold in the women's 70-plus category.
She clocked 1:18:00 but she wasn't the first of the club's quartet to finish, that honour went to John Harris with a time of 1:12:02.
Jim Brown finished in 1:31:43 while Sharon Crowley managed 1:46:30.
There were others from the club competing solely in the actual Buntingford 10 race.
David Harris-Cherguit was the first of them, coming 34th out of the 487 runners with a time of 59:38.
There was a PB for Stuart Archer as well as he clocked 1:05:08.
The last FVS run of the year came from Alison Shelley as she finished the New Year’s Eve 10k in St Albans in 1:00:58.
The first FVS run of 2024 belonged to Jim Brown as he completed the Hyde Park 10k, gaining a time of 55:20.
