Stevenage's women bounced back from defeat to thrash Bishop's Stortford thirds in East Hockey League Division Two South West.

It was the first team's first win of the season and finished 8-2, leaving them with four points from three games and sixth in the table.

The same could not be said for the men's first team who lost out for the second week in a row to another high-scoring encounter, Blueharts adding to their tally of Stevenage scalps from last week as their second team won 5-3.

The Hitchin side scored four without reply in 20 first-half minutes through Adam Wells (two), Ben Philipson and Chris Nichols.

Jamie Williams wrapped things up for Blueharts but only after a late rally from Stevenage.

Stevenage's second team did wrestle some kudos from Blueharts though as they won 5-3 against the Hitchin club's fifths.

Kieran Nowopolski and Harry Burrett gave Stevenage a two-goal lead only for Blueharts to pull back level.

Nick Umney added another in the second half only for Blueharts to equalise again.

However, Harry Wheeler ensured the points for Stevenage though when he grabbed the winner on 65 minutes.

Brothers Ben and Ashley Hammond scored for Blueharts.

Stevenage's thirds lost 6-0 to St Albans.

Elsewhere for Blueharts, there was a mixed bag of results.

A last-minute goal from Helen Ferguson gave the ladies's sixths a fine 3-2 win over Bedford.

Ferguson had opened the scoring within the first five minutes, with Hannah Ross making it 2-0.

Bedford produced two goals of their own to make it 2-2 before Ferguson’s late intervention.

It was also an encouraging day for the men’s threes with goals from James Morris, Joe Dalrymple, Gillan ide and Steve Turner giving them a 4-1 win against Harpenden.

The match also saw a man-of-the-match performance for debutant Noah Tingle.

The men’s sixth team bounced back from their heavy defeat by Bengal Tigers the previous Saturday to record an excellent 5-1 win at Shefford & Sandy.

Two goals from John Russell and one apiece from Paul Krishman, Gavin Bidgood and Joel Ide did the trick for them.

And a goal from Scott Cromack and man-of-the match performance from promising youngster Ollie Wright earned the men’s fourths a 1-0 win at Potters Bar.

It wasn’t such a happy Saturday for the club’s first teams.

The ladies travelled to Cambridge City, aiming to preserve their unbeaten start to the season.

Despite some brilliant goalkeeping from Grace Thomson, they went down to a single scrappy goal and will look to bounce back against Broxbourne at home next Saturday.

And it was a day to forget for the men who were beaten 7-2 at home by a clinical Saffron Walden side at Lucas Lane.

After going 4-0 down in the first half, Blueharts were given a glimmer of hope with goals either side of the break from Sam Rees and James Byford.

Chances to reduce their arrears to 4-3 came and went – but were taken at the other end as the visitors added three more before the close.

Despite a candidate for quickest goal of the season, with Emily Bill scoring after just 10 seconds, the ladies; fifths were beaten 2-1 by  Bedford.

Conversely the ladies' sevenths left it until the final minute to grab an equaliser against Bishop's Stortford, thanks to Imogen Ryden.

A Kate Sherwood goal wasn’t enough for the ladies' twos who went down 2-1 to Bedford, a penalty flick save from goalkeeper Lara Wildon had kept her side in with a shout, however.

The ladies' thirds performed well but went down to a single goal at Shefford & Sandy, despite a fine performance in goal from Cindy Dixon.

There was success in Division Three for the ladies' third team, winning 2-1 at Royston, but the seconds lost 3-0 to Bedford in the same division while the fifths were beaten 2-0 by Bishop's Stortford.
