The biggest half-marathon in the world and the delights of South Tyneside captured the imagination again of plenty of runners from Hertfordshire.

Three from Stevenage Striders were involved in the 13.1 mile run from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, through Jarrow, and onto South Shields.

And despite the heat, Peter Moye finished in one hour 34 minutes 26 seconds, Peter Monk clocked 2:18:21 and Scott Stamper crossed the line in 2:22:10.

That trio was matched by another set of three from Stevenage Phoenix.

Jodie Kantas and Ian Harvey ran together with Ian still recovering from injury.

They were still able to reach The Leas inside two hours, clocking 1:53:26 for Kantas and 1:54:01 for Harvey.

Denise Ricot meanwhile was pleased to complete the race in 3:14:37.

In other events, Phoenician Julie Tribe took on the Richmond Park 10k, finishing the undulating course in 54:18, a new club age category record.

There was also a club record for coach Chris Leigh at the Hyde Park Chase the Sun 10k, as he ran 49:52.

The Felixstowe Coastal 10 saw Emma Mead finish in 1:38:34 on her birthday.

She too broke a club record, meaning she now holds the 10-mile best time in two age categories.

Other than the GNR, Stevenage Striders had some enjoying themselves at the Bacchus Wine Half at Denbies Vineyard.

Paula Heyes, Julie Voight, Esther Dixon, Martin Watson, Peter Bampton-Clare finished in around 4:10.

Markus Jenni took on the Jungfrau-Marathon in Switzerland for the 20th time.

The route involved climbing a total of 1,753 metres from the start line in Interlaken up to the finishing point at the Eigergletscher terminal.

He finished in 4:07.46 which was 86th of 2,377 overall and second of 317 in his age group.

In race two of the Hatfield 5k Series, which doubled as the county championship for veteran runners, Fairlands Valley Spartans had a couple of successes.

Andrew Patterson took the overall win from the field of 238, clocking a PB of 15:55 to claim the MV40 gold as well.

Yuko Gordon was also a winner in the FV65 group in 22:25 while Samantha Pretty-Connors won bronze in the FV35 group thanks to a PB of 19:25.

Matt Tutton was another to collect a PB, 16:35 his time, while Jonathan Parr was fourth overall in 16:35.

In total 16 Spartans ran.

North Herts Road Runners had 33 running with the men's team of Stewart Overton, Shahab Ahmad, Matthew Sayers and Kris Whitmore winning county gold.

Overton also clinched silver in the MV40 group in 16:44 with Astrid McKeown getting bronze in the FV45 category.
