Stotfold not only made a winning start in their first ever Southern League game - they also gave the watching fans plenty of value for money.

Brett Donnelly's men beat Aylesbury United 4-3 at New Roker Park in Division One Central.

Charlie Briggs gave them a sensational start on seven minutes before Kade Bagge made it 2-0 before 20 minutes were on the clock.

Aylesbury's Dave Pearce pulled one back from the penalty spot in the 35th minute but Haroon Marai restored Stotfold’s two-goal advantage on the stroke of half-time.

The second half didn't go the same way and after Tyriq Hunte had immediately pulled one back, Jack Wood equalised with 18 minutes remaining.

But in front of a 251 crowd, another penalty brought the winner, Henry Snee scoring to give the Eagles all three points.

The boss said: "To be 3-1 up at half-time in our first game at step four, and then to win it after being pegged back to 3-3, fair play to them.

"I can't knock them."

Stotfold are back at home on Tuesday night to Hadley but have next week off after their exit from the FA Cup.

Hitchin Town are up to fourth in the Premier Division Central after a 2-1 win at Long Eaton United.

Layne Eadie had put the Canaries in front two minutes into the second half but the newly-promoted Nottinghamshire hosts levelled 10 minutes later through Adam Clark.

However, Finley Wilkinson grabbed the winner 16 minutes from the end with his second of the season.

Hitchin head to Needham Market tomorrow (Tuesday) and are back at Top Field on Saturday against St Ives Town.

There was a 2-2 draw for Arlesey Town at Colney Heath in the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division.

Joseph Abe had put the Blues in front in the first half but two late goals looked to have given the Magpies the home win.

Aaron Gooch though had other ideas and equalised two minutes into stoppage time to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

Baldock Town are stuck to the bottom of the table after a 2-0 loss at home to Tring Athletic.

Arlesey host Tring on Saturday but have a home game with Potton United first on Tuesday.

Baldock have the week off and return to action on Saturday away to Aylesbury Vale Dynamos.

In Division One of the SSML, Letchworth Eagles lost 2-1 at home to Burton Park Wanderers, Nathan Hall getting the only goal.

They host Wellingborough Whitworth on Saturday.
