Stevenage's DNA means hard work from everyone says Steve Evans - and that is something he expects for an imminent new signing.

The 2-0 win over Shrewsbury Town made it two from two in League One and followed on from the Carabao Cup success against Watford.

He also revealed that he has spoken to a potential signing who is very keen to come and join in the cause.

That is the minimum the Boro boss expects.

Evans said: "We have a DNA to how we train and how we prepare and we have DNA and route map as to how we play.

"Position specific have to play within that map.

"You’re going to have individual pieces of brilliance like the goal from Aaron [Pressley] today or [Jake Forster]-Caskey’s set-plays, that’s part of the repertoire.

"But we have to be, if nothing else, the hardest working team in this division.

"We can't go and spend the money, for example, that Shrewsbury have. We tried to go and get those players but we were blown away.

"But we have a model that when we get blown away, we go and find something else.

"That's the model we work with. We never go to the chairman with one option. As he said, he has had one-option managers for years.

"We go to him with three or four options and then it's up to the board as to what they sanction."

The latest option could be in this week, the boss having sorted out personal terms yesterday.

"He's a lad that will come out of the Premier League and who was on loan in the Football League last season," said Evans.

"I've been asking his manager all summer if I can have him and I eventually got a call yesterday and permission to speak to the player.

"It's like most of the lads that we've got in the door, the same as Aaron and Finley, when I first spoke to him, the first thing he said was he wants to come, wants to be part of it and wants to know when he can come.

"That was the conversation I had yesterday and that’s my job done.

"It’s now down to Leon and to the management and secretarial team to go and do their bits with the paperwork."

Having yet another body in the squad can only be a good thing he insists, as it will add to the competition for places.

And he pointed to the goalkeeping situation against the Shrews which saw Krisztian Hegyi came his place in the starting line-up ahead of Taye Ashby-Hammond.

Evans said: "We recognised that Taye was very good at Northampton and we recognised that Krisztian was very good on Tuesday.

"It literally was just a gut feeling as I came into the ground.

"When we left the training ground yesterday we'd picked the team, all bar the either or of who would play in the sticks.

"And we’ve got a clean sheet so I can sit and say it's justified but we had a really good performance against Watford and a clean sheet last week at Northampton.

"The competition is the same as it was last year. It is quite intense.

"Our bench today may have been six players but it was a strong bench and we are looking at days for the likes of Elliott List, Dan Sweeney and Harry Anderson.

"If it goes as far as deadline day to get them back, then that would be three deadline day signings that everyone in this league would want."
