It wasn't just Stevenage who kicked off their pre-season campaign at the weekend, plenty of others entered the field of play for the first time.

While Boro were winning 2-0 away to St Neots Town, Hitchin Town had the honour of hosting new Premier League side Luton Town at Top Field.

And while it wasn't the Hatters' first team that played the fixture, the Bedfordshire youngsters were just able to snatch a 2-1 win thanks to a goal from Millar Matthews-Lewis in stoppage time.

Tyrell Newton had earlier put Luton in front only for Finley Wilkinson to equalise for the Canaries in the opening minute of the second half.

Stotfold are preparing for a landmark season, their first at the fourth step of the non-league pyramid.

They opened their fixtures with a 3-0 home defeat to Southern League Premier Division South side Chesham United.

It started badly, with a goal in the opening minute, but there was better to come from the Eagles who featured a number of new signings to a squad that had mostly been retained last year.

Chesham wrapped it up with a double in the final 30 minutes but Stotfold went close through Kade Bagge and Archie Sayer.

Speaking on Twitter, manager Brett Donnelly said: "Not great to concede after 20 seconds but Chesham are a very good side. Expect them to go close this year.

"I'm pleased with my boys. We had a go and played some good stuff.

"I don’t mind a friendly defeat when things are done properly."

Arlesey Town featured a lot of trialists as they beat Langford 4-3 at New Lamb Meadow.

Baldock Town meanwhile drew 1-1 away to Virginia Water before going to Letchworth Eagles in a game in memory of Eagles' founder Vince Paige.
