Parkruns took the spotlight for many club runners this week - with events honouring the 75th anniversary of the NHS.

It was also the 300th edition of the Stevenage run, with more than 400 runners taking part.

Of that total, 25 were from Fairlands Valley Spartans  and there were a couple of PBs among them.

Ashley Johnson improved her best to 20 minutes 21 seconds in her 10th event while Nick Gill chose his 100th parkrun to move his PB to 18:40.

That placed him sixth overall.

Stephanie Mayfield also went quicker than before at Stevenage, clocking 32:34, while Nicola Andersson ran a parkrun PB of 26:22 in Ballina, Ireland.

Stevenage Striders swapped their reds for blues at Stevenage parkrun in honour of the NHS.

A number of the club work for the organisation and some have benefited greatly from life saving care.

They too had PBs though, most notably for Matt Robinson (19:47) and Julia Middleton (28:17).

Helen Moye ran her 250th parkrun, Jim Callaghan his 100th and Fiona Davies her 50th.

Stevenage Phoenix also went blue at Stevenage Pakrun where Jay Papa, Phil Gover, Emma Mead, Wendy Summerbee and Anthony Vasse were all involved.

In other events, some club runners took on the Cancer Research UK Race for Life 5k and 10k in Fairlands Valley Park.

Karl Hudson of Stevenage Striders ran the 5k while Lucy Crocker, Paula Heyes and Maxine Shackell were in the 10k.

The latter was not just in her first race but it was also her longest run, all coming off the back of enduring chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery.

Jess Ives Keeler finished the Asics London 10k in a PB of 50:45, with Stacey Whitelaw also among the finishers, and Chrissie Thomas ran the Summer Ready half marathon in Peterborough.

Laura Luhman and Brian Stapleton of Stevenage Phoenix were also in fast mode at the London 10k.

Luhman took three minutes off her PB as she finished in 1:04:44 while Stapleton was in this first 10k, coming home in 1:18:07.
