Stevenage have agreed extended terms with another of their promotion stars as they look towards a League One campaign.

Terence Vancooten has joined skipper Carl Piergianni, Luther James-Wildin and Jake Forster-Caskey in agreeing new deals in the last two weeks while goalkeeper Taye Ashby-Hammond has made his loan move from Fulham a permanent one.

The 25-year-old Vancooten has made over 170 appearances in six seasons at the Lamex Stadium, having originally joined back in the summer of 2017, and was courted by "several high-profile clubs".

It completes the list of returning players from the successful League Two, stopping on 10, and chairman Phil Wallace is delighted at how the summer squad building is going.

He said: "Leon Hunter and Steve Evans have patiently been putting the majority of the team from last year back together, with some important improvements.

"Signing Taye Ashby-Hammond on a permanent from Fulham and doing new two-year deals for Luther, Terence and Jake Forster-Caskey means 10 of last season’s squad will be with us next season and beyond.

"We’re now focused on adding experienced League One players to that group, with Nathan Thompson being a great example of that, and a couple of talented younger lads from top clubs, perhaps on loan."

Stevenage squad for 2023-2024 (so far): Taye Ashby-Hammond, Luther James-Wildin, Kane Smith, Dan Sweeney, Carl Piergianni, Jake Forster-Caskey, Jordan Roberts, Elliott List, Josh March, Jamie Reid, Nathan Thompson, Alex MacDonald, Nick Freeman.
