Mark Burke is looking to use the final games of this season to provide a springboard for next and a derby win over Royston Town was the perfect start.
A goal three minutes into stoppage time from Toby Syme gave the Canaries a 1-0 win in the Southern League Premier Division Central at Top Field.
They knew that their status in the division was secure even before kick but with the victory making it mathematically certain, they can now look towards a big finish over the final three games.
And Burke has already started his plans.
He said: "We’ve made tentative inquiries and are trying to start which, now we know we're safe, we can try and finalise.
"It'd be nice to keep the squad together and build on this season as a platform.
"It’s been a good season and it would have been nice to win the County Cup but it wasn't to be.
"Now though, I just want to finish as high as we can in the league and use that as a springboard for next year."
The win over Royston saw an even first period transform into dominant second half, but one where it looked as if the home side would not get their just rewards until Syme popped up with the winner.
Burke said: "I think we deserved it overall in the game. It was tight affair but I was really pleased with our performance.
"It wasn't really a game of loads and loads of chances, not clear cut chances anyhow and certainly not in the first half.
"Toby did really well to clear that one off the line but that was probably the best chance for them in the game.
"We've hit the bar twice but to nick it at the end is always sweet.
"That’s credit to my players. They really put a shift in and worked really hard.
"We set them a little task before the game about how we wanted to play which was a little bit different.
"But we said the foundation is our work ethic and you have to do that and they did. They stepped up to the mark and delivered."
And there was praise for the match-winner and man of the match.
The boss said: "I had Toby a few years ago when he was a bit younger. He had a little taste but wasn't quite ready so he went away and cut his teeth at the South Midlands level.
"He did really well at Harpenden and since he’s come back, he’s got his head down and he's been excellent this season, he really has.
"He was outstanding, not just for the one off the line but he marshalled the back three, he was getting headers in and winning tackles and then the icing on the cake was he goes and gets the winner."
