The clocks going forward may have signalled a move to more sunnier and drier days but there was still some mud to be found for athletics clubs.

Nick Kleanthous and Sharon Crowley of Fairlands Valley Spartans ran in the Hertfordshire Cross Country Championships for veteran runners.

That was held at a slippery Cassiobury Park in Watford with Kleanthous coming 17th in the over-60 men's category and Crowley ninth in the women aged 55 and over.

The 17.5 mile course at the Ashridge Boundary Run was a proper mud bath but there were still six Spartans who took up the challenge.

Susan McAneny was the first of them to finish in three hours 21 minutes 28 seconds, four seconds ahead of Tanya Brazier.

Other runs such as the Hillingdon 20, the Oakley 20 and the Lee Valley RunFest, which included both a 10k and half marathon option, were utilised by many building their training up ahead of marathons such as London on April 23.

Parkruns were as popular as ever too.

Stevenage Striders provided the pace runners this week at Stevenage where Gail Mackie of FVS was second woman.

Stevenage Phoenix had runners recording very different milestones at the event.

Mark Legate was involved in his 100th parkrun, finishing in 24:08, but for Steve Wood, it was his first attempt at one of the worldwide, Saturday morning 5ks.

He clocked 36:03.
