The heavy rain which fell on Saturday caused havoc with fixtures in the Hitchin Sunday League with only four going ahead.

Kimpton though were delighted that their game with Ashwell was one of them as a 1-0 win put them into the final of the Subsidiary Cup.

The basement club in Division Two shocked their Division One opponents after a tight first-half that saw both create chances but both unable to take them.

It looked as if half-time would be reached at 0-0 until two minutes to go when a free-kick from Alex Jode flew in from 25 yards.

After the break it was pretty much all Ashwell, with the hosts only venturing into their opponent's half on a handful of occasions.

But yet again the visitors couldn’t find a way through although it wasn't through the lack of trying.

Three times they hit the woodwork with another attempt headed off the line by substitute Keiron Kelly.

Keeper Russell Paine also made a couple of important stops as Kimpton went through to their first final since 2014.

In Division One, leaders Coach & Horses remained unbeaten thanks to a solitary goal inside the first 10 minutes against FC Emperors Head.

Squirrel Taverners were at home against Feed Up Warm Up in Division Two and they cruised to a 7-2 success.

The Squirrels started superbly, Sam Kattenhorn whipping in a cross for Kyle Young to place into the bottom corner.

Young went on to complete a hat-trick in the first round as they turned round 3-0 in front and the second period opened with them again pouring forward.

Luke Smith set-up Sam Heron for number four, before Young turned provider for Bennett to make it five.

Feed Up Warm Up then scored twice, with Dean Auburn scoring in between from another Young pass.

And the final goal of the game went to the Taveners, Young finishing his day on 3+3 as Smith bagged his second with a shot curled into the bottom corner from 25 yards.

The win moves Squirrel up to second in the table although they have played at least three more games than the teams around them.

One of the chasing pack, Hitchin Rovers, suffered a defeat in the final game of the day, losing 2-0 to North Herts Hatters.
