The most eagerly-anticipated game of the weekend at Stevenage Hockey Club turned out to the be the only one to fall victim to the cold weather.

The ladies' thirds were due to play Welwyn Garden City, the two sides unbeaten so far in East League Division Four South West.

However, the early start meant frost and ice was a problem and the game got postponed until later in the season.

Elsewhere in the ladies' section, the only winners were the second team who beat Shefford & Sandy 4-1 on the road, a result that moves them fifth in Division Three South West.

The firsts were beaten 3-1 at Old Loughtonians, Rachel Davies getting the goal, the fourths lost 2-0 at Chiltern while the fifths were beaten 1-0 at home to Bishop’s Stortford.

It wasn't much better in the men's section with the second team again being the only ones to fly the flag.

They beat Blueharts fourths 3-0 in Division Three South West, Nick Umney getting two and Tom Woolley one.

They lost 5-2 to Vauxhall on Sunday though to remain bottom.

The firsts were beaten 7-2 away to St Albans in Division Two South West, a hammer blow to their Division Two title hopes and potentially second place too.

The thirds lost 5-3 to Bishop’s Stortford and the fourths were beaten 4-1 at Southgate Adelaide.

Harp Mann got the only goal while there were good performances from debutants Pete and Cam.
