Arlesey Town picked up what could yet be a hugely important victory in the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division relegation battle.

The Blues won 3-1 away to high-flying Crawley Green to lift them out of the bottom two.

The game was heading to a 1-1 draw, Bruno Brito having equalised before the break from the penalty spot.

But two goals in two minutes from Tom Millett and Aaron Gooch wrapped it up with six minutes to go.

The three points were made even more important by the fact that fellow strugglers Colney Heath also won, beating Potton United 1-0.

That left the Blues on 21 points, one behind the Magpies but with a game in hand.

Arlesey were also helped in their rise up the standings by Stotfold's 2-0 success over Hoddesdon Town, the Lilywhites now below them by virtue of goal difference.

Codi-Lee Spavins got the Stotfold goals but they finished the game with 10 men after a red card for Olatunde Okeowo.

Baldock Town are slowly beginning to look over their shoulders despite not playing. They are now six points above their landlords and Hoddesdon having played two games more.

In Division One, Letchworth Eagles are up to 12th after a 2-1 win over Holmer Green, Mark Summers and Sonny Coughlin-Brown the scorers, while Codicote lost 2-0 to Berkhamsted Raiders in Division Two.

In the Southern League, Hitchin Town's winless run stretched to seven but for the positive-minded, they made it three without a loss with a 0-0 draw away to Leiston.

The Canaries have tied five of those seven matches and Finley Wilkinson went closest with an effort in the first half that clipped the bar on its way over.

But, like Stotfold, they too finished with 10 men as Toby Syme was dismissed for two yellow cards with 10 minutes to go.
