With both the men's first and second team without matches, the focus at Stevenage Hockey Club fell elsewhere.

Only the thirds and fourths played in the men's section but both enjoyed great wins.

The threes won 4-1 at Letchworth with John Mould (two), Will Hammond and Simon Russell all on target before a late consolation for the home side.

The fourths defeated Southgate Tankards 2-1 despite a late arrival and the lack of warm-up.

Geoff Trew put them in front and Harp Mann made it two before Southgate pulled one back.

The equivalent two sides in the ladies' section also played and both carried on their excellent seasons.

The threes won 3-0 away to Broxbourne to stay top of East League Division Four South West, two points ahead of Welwyn Garden City.

It was a result earned without subs and some players playing a second game in a day.

Julie Rhodes, Riana Smit and Holly Manning got their goals.

The fourths also played Broxbourne and drew 1-1 at home to remain third in Division Five and with just one defeat to their name.

Sam Robbins got the goal from a penalty corner.

Unlike their male counterparts, the ladies' first team did play, picking up a 2-2 draw at home to Basildon in Division One South.

The visitors scored first, against the run of play, but Stevenage drew level before the break through Nikki Greaves.

Liz Phoenix then gave them the lead but Basildon hit back with 10 minutes to go to leave the spoils shared.

The seconds and fifths, however, both lost to Saffron Walden, the seconds 3-1 at home with Chloe Jones their only scorer, and the fifths 3-0 on the road.
