Stevenage's League Two promotion credentials will face another thorough examination as their tough February fixtures continue.

Having suffered a first loss in 12 last Saturday to Bradford City, Boro then drew 2-2 at Newport County on Tuesday with a hugely controversial penalty in the 86th minute handing the Welsh side a point.

Another County stand in their way in game number 30 as they go to Stockport and Evans knows just what his side will have to endure.

"It’ll be extremely tough," said Evans. "Like Bradford, the resources, the fan-base, the size of the club. They all say Stockport County should be much higher up the football pyramid.

"They had a fantastic side in the National League that came into League Two but they maybe tried to change identity a little bit.

"But they’ve made some fantastic signings in the January window to add to an already fantastic squad.

"They’ve gone back to that style and any weaknesses they had in the first part of the season, they’ve either got those players back from injury or they’ve gone and bought them as they have with the striker.

"They’ve got a good system, they’ll be tactically very aware but we’ve got good players and are tactically aware too.

"It’ll be a really tough place to go again but there isn’t an easy game in League Two.

"We’ll take whatever happens at Stockport, as long as it is Stockport that beat us and not the man in the middle."

Evans had said prior to their trip to south Wales that he was hopeful both Terence Vancooten and Jake Reeves would be available for selection at Edgeley Park.

That is still the case.

He said: "The plan is to do some field-based work with the medical staff [on Thursday morning] and we’ll train here before we travel [on Friday].

"And if they come through the bits with the medical team with flying colours and they come through the training with us with flying colours, they will be in our thoughts."

Neither are guaranteed a place of course and the boss has the safety net of both Jonathan Tomkinson and Michael Bostwick to cover Vancooten.

Reeves absence could see Jake Forster-Caskey return to the starting line-up after having a place on the bench at Newport.

Evans said: "He was one of the best, if not our best player against Bradford but we just felt Jake hadn’t had 90 minutes in such a long time.

"The conclusion was we might need his quality and ability with 30 minutes to go but it turned out we needed him sooner.

"He came on and give us that composure. His quality is undoubted. He can pass the ball, he can move and we said he would be a big signing for us but we had to get him up to speed.

"Having 90 minutes against Bradford and 45 at Newport will have brought him a million miles forward."
