Letchworth Golf Club have been named as one of the finalists for the England Golf Awards 2023.

The Letchworth Lane-based club are up for the prestigious club of the year prize and will find out their fate at the ceremony to be held at Hilton Manchester Deansgate on March 2, hosted by Clare Balding.

Nominations were invited from the public for nine of the 11 categories, including the club of the year category and those were then whittled down by a panel of 39 judges, including England Golf ambassadors Tommy Fleetwood and Bronte Law.

The awards committee said: "[They are] progressive and forward-thinking and offers monthly gender neutral, mixed, and single sex competitions to cater for members’ demands.

"They work alongside the Jewish Golf Initiative to introduce people to the game and their Mike Amos Golf Foundation raise sufficient funds each year to support juniors right through from our pilot scholarship program into elite golf.

"The club also have strong links to work with Variety Golf to raise funds for a special educational needs school to purchase a new minibus."

Letchworth will be up against three others for the title: Brailsford Golf Course in Derbyshire, Suffolk's Seckford Golf Club and Lancaster Golf Club.

Hertfordshire has also got a nomination for the Women and Girls’ Trailblazer prize, thanks to their girl guiding project.

The awards committee said: "Hertfordshire Golf  has developed an exciting initiative by introducing a golf proficiency badge with Girlguiding Hertfordshire, the first county to do so.

"There are currently over 300 girls and 27 leaders involved in the programme and it uses golf to encourage fair play, creativity, health and exercise."
