There were a whole heap of goals and some big wins as Stevenage Hockey Club enjoyed a fruitful day.

Of the eight games played, six ended in wins with 26 goals scored in those matches alone.

The biggest winners were the ladies' seconds who romped to a 9-1 success at home to St Albans in Division Three South West.

Chloe Jones scored the opening goal on what was a busy day for her as she also played in goal for the fifths.

It opened the floodgates and by half-time it was 7-0 with Claire Weston (four), Holly Manning and Victoria Bell all scoring.

A better defensive line from St Albans restricted chances after the break but Katherine Swarbrick fired in one from long range before Hannah Gardner finished the victory off.

The fourths only managed a meagre five in contrast against the same club, winning 5-1.

Chloe Hazelwood got two of them with Samantha Robbins, Clare Swarbrick and Beca Ford also on target.

The thirds won 3-2 at Luton Town thanks to Julie Rhodes (two) and Kate Switters-Price while the fifths beat Broxbourne 3-1.

Suzie Strange put them in front and Sarah Hoar got the second before Melanie Retberg finished things off.

The only side in the section not to win were the firsts, and they also failed to score.

However, they didn't concede either as the game with Hertford at home finished 0-0.

Goalkeeper April Wrangles won the player of the match award.

In the men's section, Broxbourne were again on the end of defeats, with Stevenage's first and second teams both winning.

The 3-2 win for the twos came courtesy of a brace from Tom Woolley and one for Harry Wheeler.

The fourths, however, suffered the only reverse of the day, going down 4-0 at Shefford & Sandy.
