The start of the new year has many turning their eyes to warmer days - with Preston Cricket Club one of those eagerly awaiting the summer.

The Recreation Ground-based club will once again field four teams on a Saturday in the Saracens Hertfordshire Cricket League.

The first team will look to build on their success in the Championship division, the league's second tier, and they will be led by new skipper Jake George who takes over from Max Anderson.

The seconds are aiming for a high positioning in Division Five A while the newly-promoted thirds are looking forward to their first season in Division Eight B.

The fourth team will again compete in Division 10 North.

Sundays remain an important feature for the club as well and there are two teams plying their trade on that day.

The firsts play in the Bedfordshire League while the twos fielding a mixed, friendly side playing local matches.

The future of the club is a huge priority and Prestons' junior section are looking to build on recent successes with ECB Dynamos for ages eight to 11 as well as fielding a number of junior age group teams playing in the Hertfordshire Junior Leagues.

Current age groups are U10, U11, U13 and U15 but if there are any junior cricket players keen to know more, they do have spaces and welcome new enquiries.

A spokesman for the club said: "We would be delighted to invite anyone looking for a welcoming, social and inclusive cricket club.

"Anyone new to north Herts area or maybe looking to get back into cricket or just interested to find out more should get in touch via our website - www.prestoncricketclub.co.uk.

"We wish to thank all our sponsors for their continued support and roll on the 2023 season."

Senior winter nets will start on Saturday, February 4 at 9.30am at Kingshott School.
