Stevenage are all set to announce their first signing of the January transfer window.

The League Two high flyers are just waiting on the official receipt of the medical report on Charlton Athletic's Jake Forster-Caskey before making the announcement official.

Steve Evans confirmed after the 1-0 win over Gillingham that the deal was signed and only the final details were required.

He said: "We have got one that will be announced tomorrow. He’s signed but we’re just waiting on the finalities of a medical report.

"We’re told verbally it’s fine but until you see it from the consultant, you’re never allowed to announce it.

"And we’re trying to get two or three more."

He would become the second midfield man to make the switch from The Valley, Alex Gilbey being the first, and he won't be the last new face if the experienced boss has his way.

Selecting the right player though is the hard part.

"It has to be the right signing because we have such a good dressing room," said Evans.

"I built one at Rotherham, we built it at Mansfield and when you have those unique dressing rooms, you have to protect it by signing characters that are right.

"Half of our problem at the minute is getting character reports on the lads from colleagues, from ex-managers or coaches or whatever.

"We do have a dressing room full of lions but we have to make sure that people who come into that dressing room want to be lions.

"It is easy to say but it is harder to get."
