Two silver medals have kept Leona Lee on track in her quest for international glory.

The 17-year-old from Letchworth was competing at the U19 English National Championships, held at the National Badminton Centre in Milton Keynes.

She was seeded second in the singles and lived up to that billing by breezing into the semi-finals without dropping a set.

There a 21-9 21-17 success against Tashvi Parab, the number three seed from Buckinghamshire, sent her into the final against top seed Lisa Curtain.

She won the opening clash 21-19 but went down 21-10 and 21-13 in the next two.

Along with partner Katherine Arskey from Yorkshire, Lee was seeded three in the women's double and again got through to the final, beating the second seeds in the last four, 21-13 16-21 21-2.

Again it was the top seeds who proved her downfall, the pair losing 21-14 21-8.

Lee said: "I'm very happy with the results. My expectation was to reach two finals and to win two silver medals in the U19 national championships at my age is a big achievement.

"I will keep on training harder and hopefully next year I will win gold.

"Thank you Victor and TRME Sports for their continuous support and sponsorship."
