Stevenage triumphed after a sensational hockey match at home to Shefford & Sandy that yielded 11 goals.

The men's first-team got the nod with a 6-5 win in East League Division Two South West at the Nobel School.

The hosts found themselves a goal down early on but even a quick adjustment to their tactics and formation was not enough as they found themselves 3-1 down midway through the first half.

By the interval though they were level and two more goals put them 5-3 in front.

Shefford twice scored but the goal in between by Niall Trimble, hit with a reverse stick into the top corner, proved to be the winner.

That was his second and there were two for Aiden Parker as well with Andy Gardner and Michael Oliver getting the others.

The rest of the men's section struggled though with only the thirds avoiding defeat, drawing 2-2 at West Herts courtesy of goals from John Mould and Tom Woolley.

The women's first team lost 3-1 at home to Ipswich & East Suffolk, Joanne Biggs their only scorer, but there was better news elsewhere.

The thirds won 8-0 at Potters Bar to move themselves second in the table.

Alfie Gunther led the way with three with Kelly Switters-Price getting two. Kate Switters Price, Becs McGrellis and Holly Manning got the others.

Samantha Robbins got the only goal as the fourths won 1-0 against St Albans Bodiceas while the fifths beat Bedford 3-0 away, Sarah Hoar, Lyra Cowell and Hilary Davies on target.
