A 10k run round Stevenage doubled up as a way to make money for charity - with three beneficiaries in the town receiving a donation.

The Stevenage 10k, organised by Stevenage Striders, is in its fourth year and nearly 300 athletes took part.

But the event has fundraising for charity as one of its core fundamentals and the club donated a total of £2,250 to three Stevenage charities.

The Comet:

The three to benefit to the tune of £750 each were Hampson Park Community Centre, Angels and Age Concern Stevenage.

The race itself was won by Steve Buckle of St Albans Striders in 33 minutes dead and a mini-mile race for juniors, held before the main event, had 120 children completing the course to win a medal and a sweet treat.

Race director Marc Hagland said: "Their faces as they crossed the 'real race finish line', a genuine quote I heard from one of the children, was an absolute joy to see.

"That's why we do this - to give these opportunities to children in the town."

The Comet:

The rain made for stereotypical conditions as North Herts Road Runners took part in the first Three Counties Cross-country League race since 2020.

Held at Wellingborough, the weather meant a change to the usual course as a brook that was crossed was running too quick.

The revised four-lap route of Croyland Park though utilised many of the tougher climbs.

The Squirrels had 25 in attendance and they were combined team winners ahead of Ampthill & Flitwick Flyers.

The ladies were third, three points behind the runners-up, while the men were second.

Scoring for the ladies was Astrid Mckeown, Hannah Ridley, Jane Clarke and Alice Carty. Whilst scoring for the men was Ben Hadman, Mike Roberts, Ben Sewell, Sam Coxon, Mark Vaughan, Vince Wright, Shahab Ahmad and Matt Sayers.
