All eyes will turn towards Bulgaria next month for Marriotts Gymnastics Club when three of their number take part in the 2022 Trampoline, Tumbling and DMT World Championships.

The event, in Sofia between November 16 and 19, will include 17-year-olds Omo Aikeremiokha and Marshall Frost as well as 29-year-old Ruth Shevelan as part of the GB team. The Comet:

For the two teenage double mini trampoline (DMT) gymnasts, this will be their first taste of a senior World Championship but they do have big event experience, making their major championship debuts earlier this year at the European Championships where they helped the men's team win bronze. The Comet:

For Shevelan though, this is her third World Championships and having missed the European's due to injury, she's desperate to get going.

"It means everything to be selected," she said.

"This year has been incredibly challenging having had two major surgeries for injuries so to have worked back to this level of performance and to get the opportunity to compete on a world stage representing GB again is very special."

Her return to competition came at the British Championships in Birmingham last month and personal best scores gave her a silver medal.

She said: "My performance at the British Championships really boosted my confidence.

"It's the first time I've medalled at that competition which gives me belief ahead of Sofia.

“Preparations are going well. I'm focusing on increasing consistency and execution ahead of the competition with the goal of delivering a solid performance for the team and showing what I do in training day-in day-out."

As well as being delighted to make the British team, Shevelan is grateful to the support her club and coaches have shown.

"My coaches and club are the reason I've been selected for the Worlds," she said. "The support for my training, competitions and lifestyle, whilst I work full time, has been second to none."

British Gymnastics performance director Andy Tombs said: "It’s been a busy year for the gymnasts involved, with the European Championships in the summer followed by the British Championships in September.

"With competition season concluding with the World Championships, it provides another opportunity for British gymnasts to proudly compete at a major championship.

"Congratulations to all of the gymnasts and coaches selected for what will no doubt be a fantastic event in Bulgaria."
