Yuko Gordon has achieved many things in her running career - and she is showing no signs of stopping.

The Fairlands Valley Spartan enjoyed international recognition on Saturday before smashing a national record one day later.

She was at Derby for a selection race for the England team going to the Masters International Cross Country and her age-group victory means she will head to the international championship in Dublin next month.

She then went south on Sunday to the 10-mile Great South Run in Portsmouth.

And her time of one hour 14 minutes seven seconds was a UK record for women aged over 70.

She said: "The course was truly flat and although my racing pace has only been around eight minute miles, this course and my legs put me at around seven minutes 20 seconds pace.

"I kept worrying I was over pacing but I managed the even pace till the end after all.

"If I'd had no selection race the day before, I might be able to improve more, hopefully."

Philip Potter, Judy King, Nicola Hatherly and Sally Pickles were among the other FVS finishers.

North Herts Road Runners had a few personal bests to celebrate in their weekend exertions.

Ian Datlen and Mel Flynn knocked more than 10 minutes off their best times across two different runs.

Datlen was at the Yorkshire Marathon and recorded 3:02:06 while Flynn set 1:56:41 at the Great Eastern Run in Peterborough.

Adam Bowller was also at Peterborough and moved his best time down to 1:10:28 with a seventh-placed finish while Karen Townsend clocked a PB of 1:26:23.
