Stevenage striker Danny Newton’s superb individual goal against Crawley Town on Tuesday is more evidence the striker has made an excellent start to his debut campaign in professional football.
The 26-year-old joined Darren Sarll’s team from non-league outfit Tamworth in June, completing a journey through England’s semi-professional pyramid to the Football League spanning various clubs from Hinckley United to Leamington.
Speaking to CometSport his manager was enthusiastic about the forward’s progress:
Darren Sarll said: “Danny’s technical play is getting better and better and we’re seeing more belief from him that allows him to play and receive the ball in tighter areas than maybe he was doing previously.”
The Liverpool-born man, who completed a week with Jamie Vardy’s V9 Academy prior to signing for The Boro, has scored four goals in seven League Two outings including his wonder strike against Harry Kewell’s Crawley at the Lamex.
Sarll added: “I was delighted for Danny. No-one begrudges Danny anything. Everyone sees how hard he works. It was just a shame he picked up a bit of a groin strain at the end. We’ll try and wrap him up.
