Teenage defender Terence Vancooten has impressed Stevenage boss Darren Sarll in his first couple months with the SkyBet League Two side.

The former Reading player joined Boro on a free transfer in the summer, making two substitute appearances in the league and starting against Oxford United in the EFL Cup.

Seaking to CometSport, Sarll was complimentary of the youngster’s latest performance: “I thought Terrence dealt with Crawley’s pace when he came on.

“You could see his athleticism and the way he strides away from people.

“I thought he did absolutely brilliantly tonight and don’t forget he’s only a young lad.”

Discussing the pairing of the Kingston Upon Thames-born defender with on-loan Aston Villa centre back Kevin Toner, Sarll added: ‘I’ve got absolutely no problems with using Terence and Kevin Toner.

“Kevin has played in the Premier League [On 23 April 2016, Toner made his senior debut for already-relegated Aston Villa, coming on as a second-half substitute for Micah Richards in a Premier League match against Southampton].

“He’s got a terrific pedigree about him.

“I’ve got no problem about pairing them up together. They did their utmost to ensure we got a share of the spoils against Crawley.”
