Blueharts Hockey Club: Another great week for girl power in Hitchin as ladies teams win every match – as first team wallops Wapping and seconds smash Stevenage

The second’s had the most significant win beating Stevenage 5-0 at home. With lots of pace up front, the visitors found it hard to cope with the attacking onslaught.

The opener came after 15 minutes – a great save from the Stevenage goalie kept Kate Chappell’s shot out but Tamzin Wright was on hand to smash home the rebound.

Blueharts defence were solid all game with Rachel Morey and Claire Dainton’s experience coupled with Mia Luk’s pace the away team could not get their strikers in the game.

Good positioning by Lizzie Bayley allowed her space on the right working well with player of the match and club president Carol Lamey who scored to make it 2-0. Kate Chappell made it 3-0 soon after with one of her trademark runs as she slotted home with only the keeper to beat.

Nikki Baxter then grabbed a fantastic reverse stick goal to make it 4-0 before a penalty flick was put away by captain Claire Dainton.

The first team walloped Wapping at the Olympic park pitch securing a 2-1 victory after being 1-0 down. Thrilled to be playing on the blue 2012 Olympic pitch, Blueharts were buoyed by the support from friends and family who also wanted to enjoy the big occasion.

A feisty first half with Wapping pushing high and putting the defence under a lot of pressure. Distributing the ball well up the right for Sarah Baxter to find Harriet Marsh and Jay Livermore on a number of occasions.

Ellie Cockburn held the Blueharts press at the front allowing Olivia Marsh space on the left to make a number of runs that kept Blueharts well in the game.

Wapping were to have the final say of the half as they piled on the pressure and forced the ball to the base line.

With gusto and bravery Laura Kemps was there, body on the line, ready, waiting, but Wapping converted. After a stirring talk by Coach Baxter, the team were ready to do what Blueharts do best: work under pressure and secure the win. Carly Madders and Anna Page were instrumental in thwarting any attacks through the middle of the pitch and Jo Floor worked well with Bobbi Walker to move the ball through to the forwards. A green card saw Blueharts down to 10 men temporarily, so the forward line supported the defence making sure that the opposition couldn’t take advantage. Blueharts won a short corner which was injected perfectly by Anna Page, slipped to Olivia Marsh who, poised and ready, slapped the ball past the Wapping keeper to find the back board and equalise 1-1.

Blueharts stepped up the pressure, showing their fitness and determination. Sarah Baxter was released from her defensive position and found herself in the attacking D.

Charging towards goal, she slipped the ball to player of the match Olivia Marsh, who secured her second goal of the game and put Blueharts into the lead. Wapping pushed hard for the final few minutes but Becky Turner and Laura Kemps kept any real threats at bay and the final whistle went not a moment too soon.

The ladies third’s beat Harpenden 2-0 away going 1-0 up in the first 10 minutes with Hannah Mcpherson on target. Dominant in the first half, Blueharts had to work harder in the second when the home team won a couple of short corners which Player of the Match Lily Sidey saved twice off the line. At the other end of the pitch Mcpherson managed to secure the win with her second goal of the match.

A 4-1 win away against West Herts sealed a fourth successive victory for the ladies fourth team and keeps them top of Five Counties Div 4.

The first goal came after a West Herts attack broke down. Louise Kenyon played a superb diagonal pass to Hannah Ross on the left wing who crossed into the D for Gina Joseph to slot home.

Player of the match Jenny Burr played a slick ball to Haly Turney, feeding Joseph at the top of the D who slapped the ball home making it 2-1.

The third came, from Burr playing the ball to Hannah Ross who made no mistake. The fourth goal, came from Burr’s persistent probing and a peach of a ball into the D which met Joseph’s stick at the far post for a deflection into the net.
