There was nothing to separate Stevenage and Carlisle United on Saturday, as the Cumbrians held Boro 0-0 at the Lamex in an evenly matched tie.

How did Stevenage play overall? Who impressed? This is how we saw it.

Tom King, 7 - The ‘keeper on loan from Millwall until the end of the season made his second league start, and had a solid game between the sticks, although some wayward distribution let him rating down. His highlight was an impressive stop from a Danny Grainger free-kick at the end of the first half.

Jonathan Smith, 6 - Had very little of the ball throughout and didn’t make an impact on the game.

Joe Martin, 6 - Made some good bursting runs from left-back and looked lively, winning a number of free-kicks, but had to come off through injury just before half-time.

Jack King, 6 - Didn’t have to do much as Carlisle looked to threaten down the flanks, but did his job, providing some important blocks and clearances.

Ben Kennedy, 5 - Got into good positions but wasted most of his chances to create or shoot before being replaced 15 minutes from time by Alex Samuel. Engaged in a war of words with the visitors left-back Danny Grainger in the first-half and Kennedy earned himself a yellow card for a revenge tackle on the Carlisle number three after 30 minutes.

Tom Pett, 6 - Looked lively and was at the heart of Boro’s attacks, but didn’t seem to have the final product on the day.

Danny Newton, 6 - Had a good game in the air but offered little for the rest of the game. Had to be replaced in injury time when he cut his head in an aerial challenge.

Matt Godden, 6 - Starved of service throughout, Godden couldn’t have done much more, producing some nice touches on the rare occasions he did drop deep.

Ronnie Henry, 6 - After breaking the club appearance record at Morcambe, Henry played his first minutes at the Lamex as Stevenage’s highest appearance maker. A composed performance for the loyal Henry.

Mark McKee, 7 - Fulfilled his duty and did the basics well in central midfield, looking composed and positive in his deep lying role. Our man-of-the-match as he barely misplaced a pass or failed a dribble.

Ben Wilmot, 7 - Like centre-back partner King, it was a quiet game for the youngster strongly linked with a move to several Premier League clubs. He looked calm on the ball and impressive in the air as teams like Tottenham and Arsenal would have scouted him for.

Substitutes

Terence Vancooten, 7 - Slotted in at left-back well after replacing an injured Martin, dealing comfortably with any threat that came his way.

Alex Samuel, 6 - Didn’t do much when he came on 15 minutes from the end.

Fraser Franks, N/A - Had no time to impose himself when he replaced Newton up front in injury time.

Unused substitutes: Joe Fryer, Luke Wilkinson, Tom Conlon, Luke Wade-Slater.
