Stevenage hosted Grimsby Town at the Lamex on Saturday. Read on for Layth Yousif’s PLAYER RATINGS
Stevenage:
Seny Dieng: 7 – First appearance of the season for the 23-year-old Swiss keeper who impressed at Norwich in the Carabao Cup and against Swansea City U21s in the Checkatrade. Confident in the air as witnessed by strong punching quality in a crowded box when the Mariners opted to whip in difficult high balls
Luther Wildin: 7.5 – A class act. Athleticism, power, pace and technique. A real prospect after being lured from non-league football by talent spotter Dino Maria. Happy to supplement his side’s attacking ventures down the right flank
Scott Cuthbert: 7 – Solid and uncompromising
Ben Nugent: 7 – Put in a shift
Steve Seddon: 7.5 – A quick learner as shown by a drastic improvement in performance levels in the space of a few weeks from his debut in the disappointing 1-0 loss to Cambridge in which he was hooked at the break following a poor first half debut. A good engine reflected by an excellent first half break in which he ran three quarter of the pitch when driving powerfully forward. Chased down lost causes while showing good defensive discipline
Joel Byrom: 7 – Metronomic. Consistent. Quietly influential
Michael Timlin: 7 – Relishes being in the heart of the midfield battle. Tigerish and consistent
Ben Kennedy: 7.5 – Brave and tough as they come. Showed real character to withstand the rough stuff. Suffered a head wound early on but wore his bandages as a badge of honour when battling for the cause. Subject to scandalously late tackles which resulted in an early yellow for Luke Hendrie. Revelled being in the wars and earned his ovation upon being replaced by Guthrie in the second half
Alex Revell: 7 – Worked tirelessly in leading the line. Excellent at holding the ball up and playing with his back to goal on a greasy surface
Emmanuel Sonupe: 7 – Quick feet and real pace. Linked up well with his attacking colleagues. Good movement on and off the ball in the opening stages but faded to be replaced by Ferry late on. Never gave up
Danny Newton: 7.5 – Dovetailed well as part of an attacking trident especially on swift counters. Works so hard without possession and deserved his assist for his all-action display
