Stevenage’s dominant second-half display saw them beat Colchester United 3-1 at the Lamex on Saturday.

Stevenage:

Seny Dieng: 8 - Could do little about Colchester’s first goal but had a very solid game in goal, making a number of good saves.

Michael Timlin: 7 - Slow in moving the ball from his deep-lying midfield position, Timlin struggled to settle in the game in the first-half. However, in the second 45, he was helpful in keeping Boro’s tempo high.

Scott Cuthbert: 7 - Provided the assist for Guthrie to score and had a solid game at the back. Always a threat at corners.

James Ball: 6 - Had little impact on the first-half, before being replaced at the break by Emmanuel Sonupe.

Joel Byrom: 7 - A solid performance, he did the simple things well and his accurate passing kept Boro’s tempo high in the second-half as they poured forward.

Alex Revell: 7 - Dropped deep with few crosses coming into the box. Helped create some second half chances before limping off the pitch after 60 minutes in considerable pain.

Ben Kennedy: 7 - Struggled in the first half but improved with Boro in the second half, and thundered home a penalty before coming off to a roaring reception in the 90th minute.

Steve Seddon: 7 - Some winding runs aside, Seddon had little impact in a game which saw little midfield play. He did the simple things well when needed, though, and won the penalty scored by Kennedy.

Terence Vancooten: 7 - Some promising over-lapping runs on the right and electric crosses were Boro’s primary threat in the first-half.

Kurtis Guthrie: 9 - Facing the U’s for the first time after his contract was terminated in April, the 25-year-old was booed throughout by the visiting support. He silenced them in the 42nd minute by nodding in the equaliser. Though, the Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang lookalike was harshly booked for his jubilant celebrations. A powerful presence, his electric pace gave Boro a great option, and he also assisted Sonupe’s goal, Boro’s third.

Ben Nugent: 7 - A solid game at the back, with some important clearances. Coped well under pressure.

Subs:

Emmanuel Sonupe: 8 - Came on at half-time and found himself in good positions, as his hunger to press increased Boro’s tempo. His goal in the 85th minute was expertly finished.

James Ferry: 6 - On for Ben Kennedy in the 90th minute, had no time to make an impact.

Danny Newton: 7 - On for the injured Alex Revell in the second-half, he added an attacking threat.

Unused subs: Will Appleyard, John Hunt, Alex Reid, Luke Wilkinson.
