Manager Mark Burke says the fighting sprit in his Hitchin Town team is helping them chip away at their relegation fight.

Their latest outing ended in a 2-2 draw at home to Peterborough Sports and means the Canaries have lost just once in five games, picking up six points along the way.

It leaves them third from bottom and with nine games to go, the boss knows they need to scrap for everything if they are to be successful in their battle.

He said: "The season has been really tight and every game is difficult but we are chipping away.

"We’re gradually adding to our tally. It is still all to play for and this is a very important point.

"We’re down there and I’d set us up with those type of players [who love a tackle] because I knew it would be tough.

"They didn’t let me down. We were the better team in the first 30 minutes and got the goal."

This was another game where they took the lead but then found themselves behind but unlike some of them, this time they came back.

"We’ve lost by the odd goal on 11 occasions this season which just shows you the margins in the division," said Burke.

"We’ve been in every game bar one or two and gave everyone a game.

"We’ve given Peterborough a game here and the fighting spirit was there, which is what you need to get out of this mess.

"They were poor goals to concede but we’ll look at the video and analyse it and then go through it with the lads to make sure we don’t repeat it.

"They are a big strong team and we are not the only team they have scored goals like that against."

Jake Hutchinson got both the Hitchin goals, taking the on-loan Colchester United striker to 12 in 12.

And ultimately it was a deserved point against the play-off chasing Turbines.

His boss said: "He is certainly doing his bit for us.

"It was a hard-fought game but I was pleased with our performance. The draw was probably a fair result.

"Earlier in the season that last-minute header that hit the post would have gone in.

"This time it comes out.

"Has our luck changed? We would hope so."
