A brace of goals from birthday girl Sam Berry saw Letchworth Ladies record a comfortable 4-1 East Premier League victory over Bury St Edmunds at Whitethorn Lane.

The first half was a dismal affair with the visitors, knowing that defeat would condemn them to relegation, fighting hard from the start while Letchworth found it hard to reproduce their sparkling form of recent weeks.

It was only in the latter stages of the half that Letchworth were able to get forward with pace and really penetrate the dogged Bury defence.

A goal from Justine Lucas just five minutes into the new half settled the home team and the first of Berry's pair, just nine minutes later, looked to have sealed the result.

A penalty flick to the visitors, for a push in the Letchworth circle, briefly gave them some hope.

Berry's well-taken second just two minutes later finally saw off any threat. A fourth goal, this time from Babs Merrifield, gave Letchworth a deserved margin of victory.

Letchworth play their final home game of the season this Saturday against Tunbridge Wells (1.30pm at Whitethorn Lane).

A goal from Sue Saunders earned the seconds a 1-1 draw against Royston.

Blueharts Ladies suffered a 3-2 defeat against Chess Valley, a scoreline which did not represent their determined approach and possession.

With a strong start and another clean goal from a penalty corner (by Kerry Ross), things were going their way.

But two Chess Valley breaks saw them trail by half time.

After conceding a third goal in the second half, great passing with Blueharts having 80 per cent of the play resulted in a goal by Heather Abbiss to bring the score back to 3-2.

Despite unrelenting pressure from the whole team and great individual skill shown by newcomer and player of the match Emma Field, Blueharts could not convert their chances to force a draw.

Skipper Rachel Morey and her vice-captain Kerry Ross produced fantastic performances in their last appearance this season. Blueharts have their final game this week and hope to secure a mid-table finish.

The seconds picked up more points in their promotion surge by beating Harpenden 3rds 4-0.

Blueharts took the lead with a well-worked goal from Hannah Ross.

A pass from player of the match Lorna Slack to Jay Livermore set up the second finished off by Gina Joseph.

Joseph scored again to make it 3-0 by the break. Blueharts scored their last goal after the break courtesy of Susie Powell.

Stevenage Ladies went down to an undeserved 3-1 defeat to Wapping.

The home side had everything to play for as they needed a win to secure their promotion as runners-up in East League Division Two South.

Stevenage started the brightest and controlled possession and play from the outset. Player of the match Lucy Harvey caused problems throughout the half but her efforts were denied by some good goalkeeping.

In the second half, Stevenage came out hoping to capitalise on their domination and were rewarded when battling play up the left from Kate Chapman got the ball through Harvey whose strike found the bottom corner.

Stevenage continued to play well but tiring legs led to some loose passes, one of which was intercepted by a forward who pushed through for the equaliser.

Wapping had now found their momentum and again surged forward to score a second soon after.

Stevenage continued to press forward with some great balls being played through from midfield but it was Wapping who were last on the scoresheet as they converted a penalty corner.

The seconds went down by the odd goal in five to Tring and were relegated.

Their goals came from top scorer Hannah Finch.
