IT has been a mixed week for Potton United's footballers.

The Royals crashed out of the Beds Senior Cup on Tuesday night, losing 3-1 at Arlesey Town in the rearranged quarter-final tie. A full report is on Sport 3.

Ian Donnelly's men won 3-1 at Long Buckby on Saturday to continue their push for the UCL Premier Division title.

They had a scare when Chris Kirby gave the Bucks the lead after six minutes.

Potton were behind for more than an hour before Ben L'Honore's 68th minute equaliser.

Two minutes later, Kirby turned villain with an own goal and Brett Donnelly, red carded this week against Arlesey, sealed Potton's win six minutes from time.

Biggleswade United made it five consecutive wins at Second Meadow on Saturday.

But they needed a strong second-half comeback to beat a spirited Haringey Borough side 3-2.

The London side took a deserved lead after 20 minutes when French striker Francois Basty slotted home a low cross from close range.

Haringey increased their lead within two minutes of the restart, danger man Basty calmly stroking the ball past stand-in keeper Jack Weeden for his second of the match.

United pulled one back on 56 minutes as Gary Jackson's pass picked out Robbie Odell, who cut inside and firmly side footed home past a cluster of despairing defenders.

After a period of 15 minutes of constant pressure, the United equaliser arrived.

A lofted pass from Steve Purton found Keith Thomas wide on the left.

Despite the close attention of a Haringey defender, Thomas skilfully lobbed the ball up and over Danny Wright and in to the net.

The final 10 minutes saw United go all out for a winner and were camped in the Haringey final third. Stuart Hutchison's looping header almost caught Wright but the woodwork came to his rescue.

With the 90 minutes almost up, a quick throw in and well-won header from Matthew McCartney was anticipated and controlled by Thomas. From a narrow angle, his fierce strike flew into the roof of the net giving Wright no chance.

United bowed out of the Hinchingbrooke Cup at local rivals Langford on Tuesday night.

Nick Stillwell gave them the lead before Lee Wilson and Wayne Goldsmith replied for the Reds. Jackson's 83rd minute goal ensured extra-time but Russell Bull scored in the second period to send Langford through.

Biggleswade Town fell to a disappointing 1-0 defeat at fellow strugglers Harpenden on Saturday to maintain their relegation worries.
