Biggleswade's seventh annual open meet saw the club finish as the runners-up.

There were 34 clubs involved and Biggleswade finished on 857 points.

There were individual honours as Adam Ingledew claimed the top male prize, with 10-year-old George Lavallin taking third place.

The club had 214 personal best performances over the weekend, with swimmers from nine years of age competing.

There were also 77 East Region qualifying times claimed at the meet, meaning that 29 swimmers have now registered a time that lets them compete at the Eastern regional championships.

Ingledew claimed two national qualifying times with massive personal bests in the 100m freestyle and 200m backstroke, and narrowly missed out on his qualifying times in another five events!

He took several of Adam Brown's club records, a former Biggleswade swimmer who is now an international youth swimmer for Great Britain.

A total of 37 age group records fell over the weekend, with Hayley Davis taking a substantial amount of the 12 senior records.

More impressive performances came from Harriet Brettle, George Lavallin, Alasdair Kerr, Katie Tavener, Shauna Lee and Tom Kelly.

The Mallet family swam well with personal bests from Haydn, Carmen and Roger.

Another family that excelled themselves were the Farrells, Kane and Josh. Christian and Kimberley Stokes were impressive, as were Helen and Christopher Davey.

Swimmers involved in close battles with their own clubmates were Hannah Raine and Kirsten Farthing, Harriet Wase and Abigail Lavallin, Chris Budd and Harry Storton, Emily Aust and Danielle Lee, Nick Metcalf and Doug Kerr, while Paul Titley also impressed.

Other personal bests came from Jordan Ulmer, Emma Jones, Oscar Skehel, Stephen Horner, Sophie Jones Ellie Mason and Jessica Bilcock.

Courtney Aisbett and Sarah King both did themselves proud in their events.

Head coach Vix Metcalf was impressed with the meet.

She said: "I was astounded at the competition in only the second two-day meet that we have run.

"There were a host of swimmers trying events for the first time, like Alex Raine in the 1500m freestyle, who proved their calibre against some tough opposition.

"We contested every turn and finish, and now have a great stepping stone into the Bedfordshire county championships over the next two months.

"I expect us to consolidate our second place in the medal table there, and try to build upon the medal haul last year.
