The Comet Stevenage Sunday Football League

Station displayed their finishing technique to Breachwood Lions to take the Division Two Cup.

In the first cup final on Sunday at Stevenage Boro, Breachwood were the better side early on as Station were limited to a few counter attacks.

Lions' captain Danny Dye was influential and Ian Canning shot straight at keeper Paul Friedel, who made a terrific double save from close range. Paul Harvey then crossed for Ali Collins whose header came back off the post.

Danny Jefferies put in Harvey who was brought down in a heap by Bryan Dunne. Lions appeals for a penalty were to no avail; there would have been no complaints from Station had it been given.

From then on the game started to turn. On the half-hour mark, Station whipped in a cross to the back post for a low, clever chested finish from Ian Woodfield.

Goals two and three arrived in quick succession before half-time and were almost carbon copies of each other as crosses to the far post found an attacker arriving late to head low to score. Firstly, Martin Preedy, then Dave Price.

Station completed the scoring on the hour when Preedy ran on to Woodfield's pass to pick his spot with a curling lob into the top corner with the keeper approaching.

They now go head-to-head again this Sunday with Coopers hoping to complete the Double. Anything other than a win will see them needing points from a game against White Diamond Security a week later.

The Premier Division championship comes down to 90 minutes at Baldock this Sunday where Nirankari Sports Sabha take on Dun Cow.

The latter have won both meetings this season so far, turning around a half-time deficit to inflict Sabha's only league defeat, before winning at Baldock in the county cup.

They also meet in the Premier Division Cup final next month.

Dean Greenough, Justin Griffiths, Ryan Jackson, Adam Furness and Scott Mahoney gave Dun Cow the points over Bedwell Athletic, Carl McColm and Steve Underwood netting in reply.

A Mark Barnes hat-trick saw Nirankari Sports Sabha home against Bottles.

Barring a miracle, he will finish one clear at the top of the Golden Boot charts on 31 league goals, good going having only signed during the season.

Division Three saw key games at both ends.

Hogshead and Pin Green are also set for a title decider this weekend.

Pin Green are in pole position after beating Hen and Chickens 4-2 on Tuesday night.

Hogshead won a 10-goal battle against 10-man North Herts Celtic on Sunday, for whom Lee Boston, Leigh Pollard and Gavin Cortis netted.

Jamie Campany banged in another hat-trick and Adam Lusby tapped home to continue his good run. Andy Somers' controlled finish, Calvert Garnes' stumbling finish and Craig Snowden's strike finished matters.

Richard Griffiths (two), Ben Smith (two) and Paul Ryan scored for Pin Green against Broadhall Res, top goalscorer Steven Teale bagging two to take him to the 30 mark in the league, one behind Barnes.

Celtic's defeat, coupled with AFC Stevenage's defeat against Hen and Chickens by just one more goal, left them bottom of the pile on goals scored.

Player-manager Terry Lock hit a hat-trick for AFC but Chickens romped home thanks to Rob Barnes (two), Ricky Flora (two), Manjit Singh and Charnjit Singh.

MC Racing were rewarded for a great finish to the season with ninth place.

In the Invitation Cup, Dave Byatt put MBDA Res in front on the day to leave Stevenage Fencing four behind.

But Sam Gittings equalised, Marc Holmes headed home and Kevin Patterson added a penalty. Holmes headed home again before Byatt netted from the spot to put the Third Division side back in front overall.

Quality shone through though as ex-Boro striker Marvin Bates headed home before a quality strike from Gittings gave them the points.

The semi-finalists will be known this week, although they could be in doubt due to an investigation on the eligibility of a team fielded recently.
