HITCHIN'S lacrosse players look unstoppable at the top of the Men's South of England League Premier Division.

The Lucas Lane outfit eased to their seventh win of the season on Saturday to maintain their lead at the summit.

A convincing 18-4 win at home to Spencer followed the previous weekend's impressive 20-1 victory against Oxford University.

So no wonder first team skipper Steve McDermott has plenty to smile about.

"It was a good performance and we were always in control," said McDermott.

"We didn't play as well as we can do but the pleasing thing is we're winning when we're not playing our best."

Jim Mullaley, Travis Robb and Eamon Thornton all netted hat-tricks, while McDermott, Rhodri Evans, John Harry and Josh Grossman bagged braces, with Ian Thomassen also on the scoresheet.

"We just need to keep plugging away and winning our matches," added McDermott who is confident his team can retain the domestic title they won in such dramatic style last season.

Next up for Hitchin is a clash with Hillcroft - and McDermott is not expecting an easy game despite their opponents struggling so badly this season.

"They've still got good players. I don't see it being an easy game despite them not playing very well at the moment," he said.

"We always have hard games against Hillcroft. It's not a game we will be taking lightly we want to win."

Meanwhile, Hitchin's A team had plenty to smile about as they beat Royal Holloway 20-1 in the East Division Two at the weekend.
