The boys from Marriotts Gym Club in Stevenage were in action in Sunday's regional championships in Lowestoft.

This competition brings together the top elite gymnasts from the East, many of whom were medallists in the national finals earlier this year.

It was the first competition for the boys with the new scoring system and all put in solid performances.

In the under-10 section, Sebastian Jaunzens competed on all six pieces of apparatus with his best score of 11.1 on both floor and vault seeing him in sixth place overall with a total score of 58.1.

In the under-12 age group, Daniel Gardner also competed on all six pieces of apparatus. His best scores were 13.5 on floor and his piked tsukahara vault got the third best score of 13.2. He won his group with a score of 68.3 and finished in seventh place overall.

For the under-14s, Andrew Henry and Jack Maydom were carrying injuries so were unable to compete on the floor and vault but they put in great performances on the remaining pieces.

Henry's best score of 11.5 on the high bar saw him finish in 10th place with a score of 39.5.

Maydom's best score came on the rings with 11.0 and he finished in 11th place overall with a score of 38.7.

In the under-16 section, Kier Chettleburgh was also carrying an injury, so he was unable to compete on pommel horse and rings. But with a highest score of 12.6 on floor he finished second with a score of 42.7.

A few miles down the road at the Ipswich Gymnastics Centre, 10-year-old Anna Young was competing in the Eastern Region final of the level three 'in-age' championship. 'In-age' relates to gymnasts who are following the elite level national competition path.

Competing against the region's top gymnasts in her age group, including some of the national junior squad, she put together a series of excellent performances to finish fifth overall and to qualify for the national final as reserve for the Eastern Region team.

Anna is the third Marriotts gymnast to reach a national final this year.
