The destiny of the Broadview Windows North Herts League Division Two title is still unclear.

Ickleford Cricketers lost the first of their two meetings with Reed by 82 runs (179 all out chasing Reed's 261-4).

The two sides will meet again this Saturday and a win for either side could see them promoted.

A win for Cricketers could also see them pip Ickleford for the title.

And a washout could see Codicote, who won by nine wickets against Datchworth after bowling them out for just 36, claim the other promotion spot.

# With the Saracens Herts League season over, Letchworth played two friendlies on Saturday both of which resulted in victories.

The first XI travelled to Hemel Hempstead and had a comfortable win in a 40-over game.

The home side reached 200-8 off their 40 overs but the Letchworth top order made light work of this, winning by eight wickets with nearly five overs to spare.

Simon Elliott led the way with 86no, backed up by Steve March with 51no and Richard Walsh 40.

The second XI visited Southill Park and also played a 40-over game which they won comfortably thanks almost entirely to a swashbuckling 136no from Jonno Gordon.

Letchworth reached 235-5 and restricted the home side to 190-8.

# Holwell had a comfortable win over Pirton in Sunday's local derby.

They scored 157 all out on a difficult wicket with Nigel Pointing (29) and Julian Rudder (24) the top scorers. Steve Groves (3-19) was the leading Pirton bowler.

Ten of the Pirton batsmen managed just six runs between them but the team reached 99 all out thanks to Haydn Andrew's unbeaten 65 and 28 extras. Holwell's Adam Parkins claimed 4-19.

# Baldock had mixed fortunes in their weekend friendlies.

They were beaten by 98 runs by Reed on Saturday.

Logan Newman took two wickets in his first over and Alistair Jones then got another.

Reed recovered thanks to James Heslam's awesome batting display. He scored 165no out of 272-9 off 40 overs.

Jones took 3-10 and Newman 2-41.

Pinch-hitter Newman scored a quickfire 33 but they were never in with a realistic chance and ended up with a creditable 174-6 off their 40 overs. Rob Cant scored 40no, Ranjit Rayat 42 and Jones 32no.

Baldock thrashed North Enfield after batting first on Sunday.

They were 0-2 but managed to get to 184-9 off 40 overs with James Peacock scoring 56, Jones 25 and Tim Dean 19no.

North Enfield made a paltry 87 all out with Dean taking the remarkable figures of 7-5 from six overs!

# Henlow beat Waresley by four wickets in Sunday's friendly.

The home side batted first and could only muster 116 all out with Wayne Goldsmith and Kris Canagasabey sharing six wickets.

Andy Hicks' 45 put Henlow in pole position before a late wobble caused a few alarms.

The seconds went down by five wickets to Shefford after Lewis Sinclair's fifty helped Henlow post 165 all out.

Hicks scored an unbeaten ton as Henlow eventually lost by four wickets in Saturday's friendly at Flitwick. The 18-year-old Hicks (123no) and opener Ashley Dunn (49) saw Henlow reach 212-3 but Flitwick got home thanks to a superb unbeaten partnership for the seventh wicket.

# Preston seconds had a six-wicket win at home to Bessborough on Saturday.

They bowled the visitors out for 106 and the hero was Indika Samaweera. He took 4-17 in an outstanding spell to pass the 50-wicket mark for the season before returning to Sri Lanka until next year.

In reply Preston paced their innings well with Gil Burleigh making 20, John Garnham 26 and Indika undefeated on 22 as they got home with overs in hand.

# The Millman cricket competition is hoping to expand its Sunday League for the 2007 season.

The competition reorganised two years ago into separate Saturday and Sunday leagues.

Both leagues are 45 overs-a-side with the winner being the team scoring the most runs.
