ICKLEFORD guaranteed a fantastic 24 hours for the club by clinching another promotion.

Following the first team's elevation in the Herts League, the Sunday side are assured of at least runners-up spot in Division Two of the Broadview Windows North Herts League.

Playing against Datchworth, they rattled up 288-5 in 40 overs thanks to Mark Schumann's fourth hundred of the season.

Schumann made 112no and built on a good stand for the first wicket of 83 between Duncan Jenner (65) and Sam Giggle.

Datchworth were in with a shout courtesy of Steve Stroomer's 85 but were bowled out for 221, Gobin Rayat taking 3-42.

Ickleford Cricketers are also now promoted and need to beat Reed in at least one of their final matches to win the title.

This is after they cruised to a seven-wicket win over Rosslyn.

Electing to make first use of a superb surface, Rosslyn rattled up 228-5, with four bowlers bagging a wicket apiece.

In reply Jon Hare rattled up 123 in an innings of controlled power containing 18 fours and, unusually for him, only one six! He received good support from Peter Watson (46) and Tim Porter (31no).

Division One champions Holwell ended their league season with an emphatic nine-wicket win at Therfield.

Therfield put on 73 for the first wicket before wickets then began to tumble.

They totalled 152-9 in 40 overs with the trio of Adam Parkins (3-29), John Mansfield (2-13) and Steve Paola (2-27) doing the damage.

Holwell lost opener Julian Rudder in the first over but Parkins then took charge.

Only four wides and four no-balls in the final over denied him a deserved ton as he closed on 99no.

Nigel Pointing (29no) supported him as Holwell raced home in just 23 overs.

n Preston lost by six wickets against Edmonton in their final Chess Valley League fixture of the season.

They batted first and made a decent target of 263 all out, with Warren Hearne (63) Mark Waters (40) and Callum Blair (39) making significant contributions.

Edmonton reached their target with five overs to spare with Waters (2-48) the pick of a disappointing bowling display from Preston.

n Henlow ended their Millman Saturday One campaign with victory over third placed New City.

Michael Johnson (68) and Matt Chudley (60) put on a century opening stand as Henlow amassed 223-7 in their 45 overs.

New City went for their shots and were all out for 117, Phil Mansford taking 4-27 in six overs and Justin Edwards cleaning up the tail (3-4 in 3.4 overs).

The second team game in Millman Saturday Three was conceded by hosts Shefford.

Henlow also won Sunday's friendly against Granta by 17 runs.

Kris Canagasabey was unbeaten on 78 as Henlow totalled 206-7 in 45 overs before restricting the visitors to 189-8 (Wayne Bilcock 3-43 in seven overs).

The seconds lost at Kempston Sports despite four wickets for Lee Ownsworth and 40 from opener Mike Fernando.

n Letchworth Corinthians beat Westmill by 32 runs in their final game of the season on Sunday.

Batting first, Corinthians made 254-6 as a century opening stand between Mike Hughes (115) and Paul Williams (47) set their innings off to a great start.

In reply Westmill started slowly but gave themselves a chance with some big hitting from Tim Johnson and Jason Busby (61 apiece) and then Bozorgi Keo (32 no).

Wickets then fell in their final bid to score at the asking rate and they were bowled out for 222. Hughes and Dave Gash took two wickets apiece.
