A Stevenage youngster won his age group of the Grass Roots Golf Tour.

Jack Slater, who plays off 31, was first in the overall order of merit for the East Anglia region in the six to nine age group.

The eight-year-old from Mildmay Road is a junior member at the Mid Beds golf course the John O'Gaunt along with his father Ray.

He became the youngest ever winner of a junior competition at the John O'Gaunt earlier in the year.

And father and son also won at the Gog Magog Golf Club in Cambridge in an adult and junior competition back in October. The following day Jack won the handicap junior singles competition.

Jack was not among the medals at the national final played over 18 holes at Grantham on Saturday.

He goes to Giles Junior School and has an elder brother Mark, 13.
