Stotfold draw a blank

Tuesday night round-up

Stotfold were unfortunate to return from Newport Pagnell on Tuesday night without a point.

The Rokermen went down 2-0 and remain second from bottom in the UCL Premier Division.

Ian Thorne thought he had got the opener on 14 minutes, after a good run down the right from Adam Furness and the ball was cut back to him. Thorne's shot beat keeper Joe Purcell but was cleared off the line by Nick Doherty.

A good header forward from Ryan Mitchell was then run on to by Furness who shot wide on the half hour.

The same player also had a good low strike from the left deflected wide after the break.

Stotfold's best chance of the night came on 58 minutes when Mitchell played the ball forward for Thorne on the left.

He chose not to shoot but pick out Furness in the middle and he shot low to the keeper's right but the wrong side of the upright.

A good parry from Steven Graham kept out Martin Kelly's free-kick and this was followed shortly after by Mitchell's header down from a corner which saw Purcell just beat Furness to the ball.

A double substitution by Pagnell swung the game in their favour.

Danny Nichols, with his first touch of the ball, flicked Richard Armstrong's ball forward over Graham into the far corner of the net a quarter of an hour from time.

Ricky Geraghty headed down and just wide from a corner a few minutes later.

Then after Graham handled the ball outside the area, Kelly had another chance from a free-kick.

Graham parried low to his right but the ball fell for Armstrong who was ready for the rebound and tapped the ball five minutes from the end.

Langford went down 3-1 at Tring Athletic in the third round of the SML Challenge Trophy.

Mark Whittaker gave the Reds a 27th minute lead but three second-half goals saw the home side go through.
